Claim benefit FDs or forfeit them; Govt tells Vidya Laxmi scheme beneficiaries

Digital Goa, Feb 26- Goa govt has warned around 950 beneficiaries of the Vidya Laxmi scheme who have not claimed the Fixed Deposits(FD) in their names that the same will be forfeited and deposited in the State Government treasury if beneficiaries fail to claim them within 90 days. The Directorate of Tribal Welfare implements the ‘Vidya Laxmi’ scheme wherein an amount of Rs 25,000 is provided to a girl child belonging to ST community who has passed 10th standard examination and gets admission in the 11th standard of any stream, by way of fixed deposit in the name of the girl child. The amount is given to the girl child only when she passes 12th standard Board examination on maximum of 3 attempts or within 2 years of first attempt whichever is earlier. The Fixed Deposit is released upon submission of prescribed release form along with 12th standard examination passing certificate and other documents. From the year 2011-2012 to 2018-2019, around 950 unclaimed fixed deposit receipts of the beneficiaries are available with the Directorate of Tribal Welfare. The applicants have been asked to apply for release of the benefit by approaching the office of the Directorate of Tribal Welfare, Panaji or the office of the Dy. Director of Tribal Welfare, Margao within 90 days .
