Goa duo arrested in international human trafficking racket

Nov 18 – Two persons from Goa have been arrested by police for illegally trafficking women from Goa to foreign countries on the pretext of providing housemaid jobs. The arrested accused are identified as 35-year-old Sayyed Shaikh from Katem, Baina and Mastan Khan alias Pathan from Margao. Both the accused have been remanded to 4 days police custody. As per compliant filed by NGO ARZ director Arun Pandey on behalf of on of the victim woman, the duo claimed that they were overseas recruiting agents and trafficked her abroad on the pretext of giving her housemaid job. However, when she reached Muscat she was kept in a flat along with 11 other Indian women. She was later taken to a Sheikh’s house for work where she was asked for sexual favours. Police said that they will write to Indian embassy in Oman through Ministry of Home Affairs with relevant details to ensure rescue of the other stranded women.
