Digital Goa, May 14 – A major fire mishap was averted at a locked house in a thickly populated residential locality at New Vaddem, Vasco, after an electric iron allegedly left switched on ignited clothes inside the house. Smoke billowing from the locked residence alerted neighbours, who immediately informed patrolling police and the fire brigade. Police personnel reportedly forced open the door and, along with locals, used buckets of water to contain the flames before firefighters arrived at the scene and fully extinguished the fire. Timely intervention helped prevent major damage to the house and stopped the fire from spreading to nearby properties.
