Digital Goa, Nov 25 – A burglary attempt at Chawdi, Canacona has triggered panic among citizens, especially in the backdrop of three recent unsolved dacoity cases at Dona Paula, Mapusa and Vasco.Around 2.30am on Tuesday, a group of 6–7 burglars attempted a dacoity at S M Jewellers, owned by the family of Pravin Vernekar, whose house is right next to the shop. The gang tied the door of the residence from outside to trap the family inside, sprayed black paint on the CCTV. They broke the lock using pickaxe, crowbar and other tools and began lifting the shutter. Vernekar woke up to the noise and alerted the police but couldn’t step out. Police personnel who were nearby also heard the commotion and rushed to the spot. The burglars hurled stones at them and fled the spot. Officers later freed Vernekar from his house.
