Authorities seal ‘The Cape Goa’ at Cabo de Rama alleging grave safety violations

Digital Goa, Dec 15 – Yet another resort in Goa has been sealed for violating rules, this time in South Goa. Authorities sealed The Cape Goa at Cabo de Rama, Canacona, following an inspection that allegedly revealed serious fire, electrical, structural and statutory safety violations. The Joint Enforcement and Monitoring Committee said they found the premises overcrowded, operating without mandatory approvals, and posing an imminent threat to human life and property. Unsafe storage of LPG cylinders, absence of fire-fighting equipment, blocked exits, dangerous electrical wiring, and unauthorised construction beyond approved limits were among the key violations noted. In addition, in Survey No. 209/2 where Tourism Dept had granted permission for a single temporary private shack measuring 8 x 18 metres, the establishment was operating a full-fledged restaurant far beyond the sanctioned plinth area, with facilities including a bar counter, attached kitchen, bakery, pantry, staff mess for about 120 staff members, basement staff rooms, nearly 40 tables with seating for around 120 patrons, and additional rooms for housekeeping, electrical systems, storage, feeding and spa services, exceeding the capacity and area approved by the Tourism Department, the order points out. The establishment was also found violating Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms. Operations will remain shut until full compliance is ensured and clearances are obtained from the competent authorities, the order adds .
