Chanimol blaze enters third day as hazardous waste fire disrupts local life

Digital Goa, May 12: Firefighting efforts entered the third consecutive day at the old laterite quarry in Chanimol, Costi, Sanguem, where a blaze broke out due to alleged illegal dumping of hazardous waste. Two JCBs have now been deployed to cover the burning pits with mud to control the flames and smoke. Several families in the affected area have been evacuated due to the strong odour and fumes. The surrounding forest area has also caught fire, raising environmental concerns. Deputy Collector Milind Velip confirmed that directions have been issued to all concerned authorities to initiate action in the matter. Villagers marched to the site today demanding immediate resolution of the problem.
