Digital Goa, July, 15 – State-level Chieftains Uprising Commemoration Day was observed at Cuncolim on Wednesday, with Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai and LoP Yuri Alemao paying tributes at the Chieftains Memorial. Phal Dessai described the 1583 Cuncolim Revolt as a landmark uprising against Portuguese colonial rule and said efforts are underway to produce a documentary on its history. Alemao welcomed the inclusion of the revolt in the school curriculum and termed it one of Asia’s earliest non-cooperation movements against foreign rule.
