Fish curry rice at subsidised rates in all govt canteens from Oct 1: CM

    Digital Goa, Aug 4- Fish curry rice will be given at subsidised rates in all canteens in govt premises, Ravindra Bhavans etc by Oct 1 and these canteens will be run through women self help groups(SHG) t , CM Pramod Sawant assured on the floor of the house today. “From Sept 1 we will start and by Oct 1 all govt canteens will be given to Self Help Groups,” he said. He was responding to a private member resolution placed before the house by Goa Forward’s Vijai Sardesai seeking formulation of a policy to provide subsidised fish curry and rice to Goans through organisations such as women self-help groups in the wake of substantial increase in prices of essential commodities and fish. CM also assured the house that cold chain storage system will be put in place in one years time to provide fish to Goans at subsidised rates. Sawant said that poverty is not a major issue in Goa and rice is being provided free of cost to 50,000 BPL families and at the rate of Rs 12 per kg to APL families in Goa. In addition, all families with children below 5 years of age are provided pulses and rice free of cost.
