Permitting mining of dumps without prior leases would amount to illegal mining: Goa Foundation
Jan 30 – Green NGO Goa Foundation has served a legal notice to the Director, Dept of Mines & Geology, objecting to e-auction of mining dumps. Goa Foundation has said in the notice that permitting the mining of dumps would amount to illegal mining, if no prior leases have been granted for the purpose. The letter was addressed in the context of the auctions of mining dumps. The Foundation has called for cancellation of the auctions and for re-conducting them after first granting a proper mining lease and after obtaining all necessary approvals, as required by the Expert Committee on Dumps and the various provisions of the MMDR Act. DMG has announced e-auction of the mining dumps fro Jan 30 to Feb 4.
