Goa Govt now finalises Rivona in Sanguem for setting up IIT campus

    Digital Goa, Oct 12 – Goa govt has finalised on yet another land parcel admeasuring 10.51 lakh sq mtr, this time at Rivona for setting up of the permanent campus of Indian Institute of Technology(IIT), Goa. South Goa Collectorate has issued a public notice specifying the survey numbers of land parcels situated in the Rivona Village of Sanguem Taluka which are needed or are likely to be needed by the Directorate of Technical Education, Goa, for setting up of the IIT campus. The land is being considered under Procurement of land under Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, for direct procurement of land to set up public purposes on priority basis published vide notification 22/01/2016-RD, the notice adds. The survey numbers specified in the notice are as follows – Survey numbers 168/1 (6.27 lakh sq mtr) , 169/1(part) (3.79 lakh sq mtr), 169/2 (11,315 sq mtr), 169/3 (33,100 sq mtr) of Rivona Village, Sanguem. The land is together admeasuring 10,51,618 sq mtr. Goa govt’s earlier attempts to set up the prestigious institute of higher learning at Canacona, Sattari and Sanguem have received setback due to stiff opposition from locals.
