Govt to charge 100% additional licence and licence renewal fee to liquor shops within 100 meter radius of Educational Institutes & religious places

    Digital Goa, June 25- Goa govt will charge 100 percent additional licence fees as well as renewal fee to the licences issued to open liquor shops within a radius of 100 meters from an Educational Institution or a place of worship. “100 percent additional licence fees shall be charged to the licences issued in relaxation of sub-rule (4) of rule 90 of the Goa Excise Duty Rules, 1964 and also for renewal of such licences,” states the notification issued today.
    As per sub-rule (4) of rule 90 no licence is to be granted to an applicant if the premises in which he proposes to open liquor shop are within a radius of 100 meters from an Educational Institution or a place of worship or ‘Harijan Basti or a Labour Colony’ . The relaxation however adds that the licence may be granted by the Commissioner with prior approval of the Government with a view to promote Tourism in the State.
