Gradual decline in farmers receiving minimum support price in Goa over the last 3 years

    Digital Goa, July 45 – Farmers receiving minimum support price for their crops has seen a gradual decline over the past 3 years. In 2020-21, farmer beneficiaries figure stood at 9134, it reduced to 7280 in 2021-22. In 2022-23 the number went down to 5766. The figures for the current financial year are 43. Support Price is given to farmers for the following crops: paddy (Rs 22 per Kg), Alsando (Rs 100 per g), sugarcane (Rs 3,000 per quintal), Oil palm (Rs 9000 per quintal), arecanut (Rs 170 per Kg), cashewnut (Rs 150 per Kg), and coconut (Rs 15 per nut).

    Sawant assured the House that amount due to farmers across the state as crop compensation will be paid to them by Aug 15. He was replying to a question raised by Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye regarding compensation to farmers. Sawant said that 85 applications for compensations which were received at the fag end of the year, after the funds were exhausted for 2022-23, will be cleared within 2 weeks time.
