Digital Goa, August 13 – The High Court has concluded hearing a PIL on the contamination of Salpem Lake in Navelim and ordered all concerned authorities to take strict measures to protect the waterbody and adjoining fields from pollution, advocate general Devidas Pangam informed. Margao Municipality has been instructed to maintain constant vigilance and alert the authorities of any violations. Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), Margao Municipality, and the Sewage Corporation have been directed to ensure that every household and commercial establishment in the area is linked to the sewage network, and that no untreated wastewater or sewage is discharged into the lake. Further, there are low-lying areas where the sewerage lines cannot be laid, so the sewerage corporation will make alternate arrangements for such areas in a time-bound manner, he added.
