High Court acquits three men in 2017 Calangute fish market murder case

Digital Goa, Dec 10 – In an important ruling, the High Court has acquitted Joseph Ismail Sequeira, Ceon Fernandes and Mahesh Rampal in the 2017 Calangute fish market murder case, overturning the trial court’s 2023 judgment that had held them guilty of murdering Tyrone Nazareth. “All the three Appellants in all the three Appeals are acquitted of the offences under Section 302 r/w Section 34 of IPC. The Appellants, if not required to be detained in custody in connection with any other case, be released forthwith,” the High Court ordered today. The three accused were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in May 2023, after they were found guilty of assaulting Nazareth with a knife and chopper on the midnight of June 24, 2017, at the Calangute fish market. The victim had succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the North Goa District Hospital.
