Land conversion sanad processing timelines slashed by nearly half

Digital Goa, July 16 – Goa government has substantially shortened the time limits for processing land conversion applications under Section 32 of the Goa Land Revenue Code. Under the revised schedule, initial scrutiny and forwarding of applications must now be completed within three days instead of five. The time allowed to the Mamlatdar, TCP Department and Forest Department to submit reports has been reduced from 20 days to 10 days each. The Land Survey Department must now submit its report within 10 days instead of 20, while the Collector or Deputy Collector must decide the application within five days rather than 10 days. The deadline for issuing the conversion sanad after payment has also been reduced from three days to one day. Govt has additionally cut the time for forwarding papers to the Survey Department from five days to three days. The amendment effectively reduces several key stages of the land conversion process by half, bringing them under stricter time-bound public service delivery norms. Incidentally, Section 32 of the Goa Land Revenue Code, regulates the procedure for converting land use from agricultural to non-agricultural purposes or from one non-agricultural use to another. Upon successful completion of this process, the District Collector issues a legal document known as a Conversion Sanad.
