Digital Goa, Aug 18- Large police force has been deployed at the construction site of the Rs 88 crore bandhara over Khandepar river. Anticipating protests, South Goa Collector has imposed Section 144 CrPC within the radius of four villages – Murdiwada, Khandepar, Sonarbag, Usgao from today morning till the work of construction of the bandhara is over. The bandhara is planned to cater to the needs of Priol constituency where water of the Opa water works cannot reach. The work entails a barrage and a water pumping station at Murdiwada-Khandepar, improvement to the Shitole tank in Keri village of Ponda taluka for irrigation and supply of drinking water to Savoi Verem and Kerim villages in Priol constituency. Locals have been opposing the project tooth and nail fearing that construction inside the river basin will create environmental destruction, including causing the river to rise, and will add to their woes during monsoons.
