Digital Goa, Oct 2- National Institute of Oceanography has submitted a comprehensive report to the govt on sand erosion and sediment discharge studies in four rivers of Goa including Mandovi, Zuari, Chapora and Talpona, informed director CSIR-NIO professor Sunil Kumar Singh. Using the report, locations for safe extraction of sand will be identified. He added that after the rainy season, similar pre and post monsoon studies of other rivers such as Mapusa, Valvanti, Khandepar, Sinquerim, Khorjua etc will be taken up. “We are doing the geological, geophysical and biological survey work together,” he added. NIO report of Mandovi and Zuari rivers submitted to Directorate of Mines also contains impact of sand extraction and the locations where sand extraction can safely take place in these rivers.
