Digital Goa, Jan 11 – After several hours of fire fighting, the inferno at the paint factory at Pilerne Industrial Estate was brought well under control by 6.30 am. Part of the factory is still under fire, but the situation is totally under control, informed IDC Chairman Aleixo Reginald Laurenco. It may take another day or so for the fire to be put off completely, he added. “JCBs are already breaking through and going inside the factory. However, it is not safe for people to enter due to the extreme heat,” said Reginald.

Senior Fire Service Dept Officer Ajit Kamat informed that 10 to 12 lakh litres of water, 4 tonne foam was used to douse the fire. More than 100 fire fighters, personnel as well as equipment from Navy, defense and MPT were pressed into service to bring the blaze, which started yesterday afternoon, under control. “Slab on basement is still on fire. We have asked for chain JCBs,” he added.
