United opposition grills govt over discrepancies in IPB data tabled in the house

    Digital Goa, Feb 8- United opposition today grilled Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho over gross discrepancies in figures tabled on the floor of the house related to investment, employment and land allotted through Investment Promotion Board. The opposition benches pointed out that figures submitted in the July session were not in sync with those submitted in this session of the assembly. Opposition also pointed out that of the 6.41 lakh sq mtr land that has been notified as Investment Promotion Zone in the last 5 years, 3.82 lakh sq mtr comes under natural cover, orchard, fields, irrigation command area and even in close proximity of protected monuments. Minister Mauvin Godinho said that the figures were estimated based on proposals cleared. Goa is a mix bag of different types of land parcels. Ecologically sensitive areas, fields etc in the areas announces as Investment Promotion Zones will be left untouched, actual constructions will come up in some parts of these areas, he claimed. He also went on to inform the house that since 2014, total of 7,872 people have been employed through IPB approved industries, of these 3242 were Goans and 4630 were non Goans.
