Feb 12- Goa govt will soon form Department of Drinking Water(DDW) by bifurcating Public Works Department(PWD), informed CM Pramod Sawant today. PWD is responsible for roads, buildings and water supply, however as the scope of the department was large, due attention was not provided to water supply, said CM while elaborating on the decision to form the new dept. He said WRD will be responsible for getting the water till the reservoir and from thereon the responsibility of supplying water to households and establishments will rest with the new DDW. Goa is presently dependent on Tillari for its water supply and even when the state has repaired canals on its side of the border, canal breaches on old 30 kilo meter odd Maharashtra side are disrupting water supply in the state, he pointed out. He further added that the new department will be tasked with making the state Swayampurna in water supply for next 25 years. He claimed that 40 % of people in the state are getting zero bill due to Goa govt’s scheme.
