Feb 20 – North Goa Police has busted three major online scam networks and arrested 5 persons from Delhi, Karnataka and West Bengal for targeting tourists through digital platforms and defrauding them.
▪️ Delhi trio held for water sports activity ticket scam
Three persons from Delhi identified as Mayank Jain and Harish Jain from Shadipur, Delhi and Shashank Verma, from Budaun, Delhi were arrested for selling fake water sports activities tickets online. Several tourists had filed cheating complaints through 1930 complaint registration number as well as other online and offline means in this regards at Porvorim and Panaji police station.
▪️ Goa Homestay Scam: Accused arrested in Karnataka
40-year-old Dilip Kumar Vishwakarma from Bidar, Karnataka, was arrested for allegedly scamming victims who booked home stays through online means. He took advance payments from victims by promising them accommodation at non existing properties of properties with no link to him. Once the payments were made, he blocked the victims numbers. Multiple similar complaints have been lodged against Vishwakarma nationwide, informed police.
▪️ West Bengal man arrested in sex toy selling scam
Shubendhu Kumar Das, a 37-year-old man from Kolkata, West Bengal was arrested for cheating tourists in Goa on pretext of selling sex toys on an e-commerce website that falsely claimed to have a local presence. Despite receiving payment, the company never delivered the product as the listed business address did not exist , informed police.
