Feb 24 -A tense situation prevailed outside the Mandrem police station after a Delhi-based accused was found being ferried in an air-conditioned private car by the police. Villagers gheraoed the vehicle, forcing the accused to return to the police station. Incidentally, the accused, 23-year-old Deepan Batra, who allegedly killed a local woman under his car’s tyres, was seen traveling in a private car with tinted windows from the police station, where he was in police custody. Villagers alleged that the car, which belongs to a staff member of the police station, did not even have valid insurance. An irate crowd forced the vehicle back to the police station and confronted the police personnel over the VIP treatment given to the accused. The incident came to light when villagers, planning to march to the police station to inquire about the progress of the case, noticed a private tinted car emerging from the premises
