Digital Goa, May 22- The Southwest Monsoon is likely to onset over Kerala within the next 3–4 days, almost six days ahead of its normal schedule, due to an upper-air cyclonic circulation that may intensify into a depression. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD): “Southwest Monsoon has further advanced over some more parts of the south Arabian Sea, Maldives & Comorin area. Conditions are likely to become favourable for the Monsoon onset over Kerala during the next 3–4 days.” The upper-air cyclonic circulation, extending up to the mid-tropospheric level over the east-central Arabian Sea off the North Karnataka–Goa coasts, persisted over the same region as of 08:30 IST on May 21, 2025. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region within the next 12 hours. It is expected to move nearly northwards and intensify further into a depression over the subsequent 36 hours. A trough also extends from the cyclonic circulation over the east-central Arabian Sea off the North Karnataka–Goa coasts to coastal Andhra Pradesh and reaches up to 3.1 km above mean sea level.
