New support scheme for salt pan owners on cards

Digital Goa, May 22- Goa govt will launch a new scheme under the Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) to revive traditional salt pans, informed CM Pramod Sawant. The initiative will focus on promoting local bio-salt, restoring ecological balance, and supporting salt pan owners and will be undertaken in collaboration with CSMCRI Bhavnagar and locals experts. Sawant also announced a series of new initiatives for 2025 aimed at promoting biodiversity conservation while supporting sustainable livelihoods, during the International Day for Biodiversity 2025 celebrations held in Sankhali. Two more GoVan Multi-Processing Centres will be set up at Sancorda and Rivona. Presently, 9 such centers are operational at Kudne, Pissurle, Bhironda, Mayem, Pilgao, Verna, Dabhal, Sulcorna, and Uguem. Sawant also announced support schemes for grassroots conservation using People’s Biodiversity Registers (PBRs) and community-led biodiversity actions. He also lauded projects like GoVan, Green Skilling, and the revival of traditional crops like Patni rice and Parra watermelon which are empowering local communities and protecting Goa’s natural legacy.
