Digital Goa, August 7 – The Goa Assembly today passed the Unauthorised Construction (Amendment) Bill, 2025, aimed at regularising several unauthorised structures across the state, amid commotion and noisy scenes from the opposition benches. The opposition alleged that the Bill was introduced to appease a section of the population and gain political mileage ahead of the next elections. The government, however, defended the move, stating that it seeks to address the long-standing issue in a structured, equitable, and compassionate manner as a one-time humanitarian and socio-economic measure. The Bill amends Section 3 of the Goa Regularisation of Unauthorised Construction Act, 2016, to widen its scope for regularising unauthorised constructions. A fresh two-year window will be provided for individuals who could not apply earlier or whose applications were rejected on certain grounds. The built-up area limits have also been revised — allowing regularisation of up to 500 square meters in Village Panchayat areas and up to 600 square meters in areas under Municipal Councils or Corporations.
