Stray dog bite cases in Goa exaggerated, 372 and not 37,197 cases in 3 years: GAF

Digital Goa, Sept 14 – Goa Animal Federation(GAF) has asserted that stray dog bite figures in Goa are inflated, with only 372 actual cases in 3 years against the reported 37,197. According to GAF , while Union Health Minister stated in Parliament on April 1, 2025, that Goa recorded 37,197 dog bite cases between 2022-2025, the actual number of stray dog bite or scratch cases is only 372 over the same period. GAF explained that the inflated figure arises because hospitals count every rabies shot as a separate “animal bite case,” even though each patient receives five doses and the data does not differentiate between dog bites and bites from other animals.
