Digital Goa, Oct 10 – Sanguem MLA and Minister Subhash Phal Desai, said that the ceiling collapse at the Government Higher Secondary School in Sanguem was caused by a monkey. The animal had jumped onto the tiled roof of the school and fell through, bringing down the false ceiling, he said. The group of students engaged in recreational activities inside the hall were injured in the incident, he added. Phal Desai informed that X-rays and scans of the injured students have been done and doctors have said that students have received minor injuries.
He further informed that there are several trees around the HSS, and monkeys jumping on the tiled roof is a common occurrence. He added that the false ceiling was already in a weak condition, and his office had earlier written to the authorities regarding its poor state. An estimate for the repair work had also been prepared. He was speaking to media persons from the Purple Fest venue in Panaji.
