Digital Goa, Nov 2 – Pernem Police have registered a separate offence under various sections against the labourers and the owner of the canoe who directed them to extract sand from the Terekhol river at Ugvem, Pernem when firing incident happened, without valid permission from the concerned authorities. Two local canoe owners — Robert Agnel Fernandes (46) and Ashok Shridhar Mulgaonkar (48), both from Porascodem, Pernem — along with five labourers have been arrested in this case. Notices under Section 35(3) of the BNSS have been issued to eleven more canoe owners, who have been summoned to the police station for investigation. Efforts are on to identify how these canoe owners were engaged in illegal sand extraction, and the accountability of those complicit with them will be fixed, police said.
