Digital Goa, Jan 20 – GSPCB is considering levying Environmental Compensation (EC) on panchayats that fail to ensure proper garbage management. EC is a financial penalty based on the “polluter pays” principle, under which entities responsible for environmental damage are required to bear the cost of remediation and restoration.

Digital Goa, Jan 20 – The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) is in the process of assessing the issue of graphite particle pollution reported in the villages of Betaki, Khandola and Amona. GSPCB Chairperson said the board is examining why the particles are being dispersed and what directions need to be issued to address the problem. The particles allegedly emanating from pig iron plant at Amona on the banks of Mandovi river affects Khandola and Betaki, the villages are directly across the bank . Wind patterns carry the lightweight graphite flakes across the water.
