Digital Goa, Mar 20 – Goa government has notified the Goa School Education (Amendment) Act, 2026, introducing a uniform minimum age of six years for admission to Class I in recognised schools across the state from academic year 2026-27.The amendment, passed by the Goa Legislative Assembly on January 15, 2026, received the Governor’s assent on March 9 and has now come into force with immediate effect following its publication in the official gazette. As per the revised provisions a child who has not attained six years of age on or before June 1 of the academic year will not be eligible for admission to Class I or any higher class in a recognised school. The law, however, provides a one-time relaxation for the academic year 2025–26. Children who have completed five years and six months as of June 1, 2025, will be allowed admission to Class I for that year. The amendment also lays down criteria for admissions to higher classes, stating that a student seeking entry for the first time into a recognised school must meet age requirements based on the standard progression of schooling from Class I, ensuring the minimum age benchmark is maintained.
