Digital Goa, June 11 – Taxi and Rent-a-Cab operators across Goa could face suspension or cancellation of permits if their vehicles are found operating without functional speed governors, the Directorate of Transport has warned through a public notice issued today. The department said it has observed that several commercial passenger vehicles are either not fitted with speed governors or are operating with non-functional devices, in violation of Rule 118 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. The Directorate has directed all operators to immediately ensure that their vehicles are equipped with approved speed governors conforming to prescribed AIS standards and calibrated to the speed limits applicable to their category. The notice adds that failure to comply with the directive would invite legal action, including suspension or cancellation of permits.
