WRD contemplates pumping water from mining pit to Podocem plant amid low Anjunem dam levels

Digital Goa, June 15 – Water Resources Department(WRD) Minister Subhash Shirodkar on Monday said, if the need be, the department will begin work by Wednesday or Thursday to facilitate pumping of 40 to 50 MLD of water from the Pissurlem mining pit to the Podocem Water Treatment Plant in view of concerns over water levels in the Anjunem Dam. As on June 15 morning water level at the Anjunem dam stood at 10 %.
He was speaking to media persons, after the department’s weekly review meeting where water management was discussed amid delayed monsoon conditions. The minister further informed that water storage in the Salaulim Dam is sufficient for another one to 1.5 months. He also said that work on preparing DPRs for proposed mini dams at Kajumol and Charavane is underway and these projects will help address water scarcity issues in the future.
