90% of Goa power consumers within sanctioned load limits: issuing of regenerated bills started, Power Dept

Digital Goa, June 30 – Around 90% of Goa’s 7.5 lakh electricity consumers have remained within their sanctioned load limits, while only about 70,000 consumers (10%) exceeded the sanctioned load, according to the Electricity Department. The department has begun issuing regenerated electricity bills to consumers from June 29. The revised bills will charge consumers only the normal applicable tariff for the electricity actually consumed, with excess demand charges, excess energy charges and delayed payment charges being removed. Officials said penalties amounting to ₹43.51 crore, already recovered from around 70,000 consumers, for exceeding their sanctioned electricity load between November 2025 and June 23, 2026 will be credited to their future electricity bills. Consumers above prescribed limits must regularise load within three months by applying online. The department has also announced the automatic enhancement of sanctioned load for all Low Tension (LT) consumers based on the highest load recorded by their electricity meters. Single-phase connections will be automatically upgraded up to 5 kW, while three-phase consumers will have their sanctioned load automatically enhanced up to 10 kW. Consumers shifting from single-phase to three-phase connections or those requiring a sanctioned load above 10 kW must apply online and regularise their load within three months. The department asserted that the penalties were levied in compliance with the directions of the JERC.
