Speaker suspends 7 opposition MLAs for 2 days over Manipur protests

Digital Goa, July 31- In an unprecedented situation, 7 opposition members were suspended by Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar for obstructing ruling MLA during their protest on Manipur crisis. Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, Viresh Borkar, Vijay Sardessai, Venzy Viegas, Cruz Silva, Carlos Ferreira, Alton Dsouza were suspended for rest of the proceedings today and tomorrow by the Speaker. Earlier, during zero hour leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao demanded to know from Speaker why their resolution on Manipur crisis was not taken up. All MLAs were wearing black clothes to protest against the atrocities being committed in Manipur. MLAs first displayed placards and went into the well demanding debate on Manipur. When Speaker asked Jit Arolkar to make his zero hour mention, all 7 MLAs went towards ruling side and gheraoed Arolkar. His papers were snatched from his hand. They were escorted by Marshalls outside the Assembly hall. Calling the conduct of the opposition MLAs unhealthy and unacceptable, Ruling MLAs demanded suspension of MLAs. Speaker obliged and gave verdict to ban 7 MLAs for today and tomorrow from the assembly proceedings.
