Forest land diversion for Karmal Ghat Highway expansion receives final nod from MoEF & CC

    Digital Goa, Oct 4- Goa govt’s proposal to divert forest land for the Cuncolim -Canacona highway (via Karmal Ghat) expansion has finally received the Centre’s final approval. Ministry for Environment & Climate Change (MoEF & CC) in its communication to the Principal Secretary (Forests), Govt of Goa has stated, “After careful consideration of the compliance report furnished by the Government of GOA online dated 15/09/2023. I am directed to convey the “Final approval under section 2 of the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 for diversion of 0.03 ha of forest land in Sy No.103(P), Canacona village and Taluk, South Goa, Goa for urgent restoration of existing road formation of NH-66 between km 572/500 to km 595/200 which passes through Karmal Ghat area in favour of Executive Engineer, Works Division, VII (NH), Public Works Department, Pato, Panaji.” In-Principle” (Stage-1) approval was given for the project by the Central Government on June 28, 2023.
