Digital Goa, Jan 9 – Colvale police nabbed a thief stealing components of four-wheelers from Goa and Maharashtra for extracting elements of platinum or white gold from them. Police informed that the 31-year-old accused Mohammed Parvez Malik from Uttar Pradesh was found in possession of 122 catalytic converters of four-wheeler vehicle silencers costing approximately Rs 8000 each – together worth Rs 9.76 lakh. Police also found 66 kg Carbon dust particles containing elements of platinum worth approximately Rs 16,000 per kg – together amounting to Rs 10,56,000 with him. Total worth of the seizure is Rs 20,32,000. The catalytic converter of four wheeler silencers are stolen by the thieves for extracting elements of platinum from the carbon dust of the silencers. The mixture is sold to dealers in Pune and Delhi who in turn process it into platinum metal and sell in international market at high price, informed police. Police are on lookout for other accomplice of the accused.
