Digital Goa, Mar 4 – Central leadership has asked Goa BJP to suggest some names of women who can be considered as probable candidates in addition to the existing 3 names suggested for South Goa Lok Sabha Constituency, informed CM Pramod Sawant. Party had suggested the names of Narendra Sawaikar, Babu Kavlekar and Damu Naik as prospective candidates for South Goa as other two names considered by Goa BJP i.e. Digambar Kamat and Ramesh Tawadkar had said that they were not interested. Sawant was speaking to media persons after the core committee meeting of the party in the capital city. He said that the process to identify the probable candidates from among women party workers, well wishers, extended family, ‘parivar’ etc has already started. The party is looking for candidates whose thought processes are aligned with the party, he added. Winnability will be the prime criteria, said Sawant. “As of now, no names have come. Center has also not suggested any names,” he claimed. The names will be shortlisted by the scrutiny committee and further sent to the parliamentary election committee for consideration. The name of the South Goa candidate for Lok Sabha Polls may be announced by the Central BJP in the second or third list of candidates, opined Sawant. Center has suggested including women names as BJP is in the process of implementing 33% political reservation criteria across the country within its own realms.
Senior BJP leader and 5 time MP Shripad Naik’s name has already announced by the party as candidate for North Goa.
