🔸  In SC, state challenges HC’s stay on development in five villages

 State govt has moved the Supreme Court against the order of the high court of Bombay at Goa that issued a stay on development based on permissions or conversions granted under the outline development plan (ODP) notified on December 15, 2022 for Calangute, Candolim, Arpora, Nagoa, and Parra.

🔸  GMC opens new single-window system for PwDs

 A disability board and disability facilitation centre has been set up at GMC to offer persons with disabilities a single-window system through which they can apply for a disability certificate and UDID card. Through the single-window system, the centre set up opposite the department of ortho-surgery and occupational therapy OPD-17 will accept applications for disability certificates and issue certificates at the same counter.

 The replacement of the old pipeline, measures to clean drains, and the proper release of wastewater were discussed at a meeting to tackle the contamination of the tap water supply in Dongorim, on Tuesday.

🔸  Siemens to invest Rs 333 cr in Goa plant

Giving a fillip to the state government’s efforts to attract investors, Siemens Ltd. on Tuesday said it will be investing Rs 333 crore in its Goa factory located at the Verna industrial estate for manufacturing critical components for infrastructure and power distribution sectors.

🔸  Licensed hotels see 35% jump in wake of govt crackdown

With the government cracking down on illegal tourism establishments, the number of licensed hotels in the state has seen a nearly 35 per cent jump. The unlicensed hotels had become major problem for the tourism industry and, hence the government in the last two years undertook a major clean-up of the illegal operators, making it mandatory for all hospitality establishments to comply with the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade (Amendment) Act, 2022.

Two motorcycle-borne persons, impersonating as policemen tricked a woman pedestrian at Neura and fled with her gold jewellery worth Rs 2.73 lakh.

🔸  Govt refutes contempt of court charge by Opposition in OCI card registration issue

Deputy Solicitor General Adv Pravin Faldessai on Tuesday rejected the charge by Opposition leaders of committing contempt of court for OCI card registration since “neither the regional passport officer was aware nor the FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office) could inform us about the corrigendum was aware of the April 30 corrigendum issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MER), New Delhi”.

🔸  Central Jail authorities directed to produce duo in Court on May 16

The Mapusa Special Court has asked the Colvale Central Jail authorities to produce before it on May 16, two main accused arrested in a money laundering case and to issue summons to other accused. During the hearing of the chargesheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Court was informed that the main accused Mohammed Suhail of Karnataka was untraceable while, the other two accused Rajkumar Maithi of Miramar and Vikrant Shetty of Gogol-Margao, have been lodged in the Colvale Central Jail.

🔸  Porvorim flyover work begins, completion target of 2 years

Construction has kicked off on a 5.15 km six-lane elevated corridor aimed at easing traffic congestion along the Porvorim stretch of National Highway 66. The project, which commenced in mid April, carries a deadline of 24 months, with an expected completion date set for April 2026. The elevated corridor, spanning a single row of 86 piers and 87 spans, will provide a much-needed relief to the heavy vehicular movement experienced in the area. Notably, the construction is being spearheaded by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) with an estimated project cost of Rs 634 crore.

🔸  Dogs maul girl on morning run at Benaulim beach

Beware of strays on the prowl on beaches. An early morning running trip on the Benaulim beach turned into a nightmare for a 24-year old girl from Loutolim after she was attacked by stray dogs. The victim girl, a regular runner, was mauled by the strays before a tourist couple rushed to her rescue after hearing her screams and cries for help, but not before she sustained around 6-7 bites.
