Sept 30 – Unemployment data pertaining to Goa which was released by the Center on Sept 23 is totally wrong, claimed Minister Babush Monserrate. “Our Labour commissioner had gone to Delhi to have a meeting with Union Labour Minister. He has pointed out that this data has basically not come from the labour department and it is totally wrong,” asserted Babush. The Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) for the period between July 2023 and June 2024, released by the Union Planning & Statistics Ministry has pegged unemployment rate for Goa for all age groups at 8.7 %, way above the national average of 4.1%. The data further pegs youth unemployment (age: 15-29 years) percentages in Goa at 19.1%.
“State Planning and Statistics Dept should follow up with the Center in this regards,” asserted Babush.
