Digital Goa, May 19 – CM Pramod Sawant said that the revival of Goa’s mining sector is beginning to restore economic confidence, employment and industrial activity, with operations resuming in around 18 auctioned mineral blocks having an estimated production capacity of nearly 19 million tonnes per annum. Addressing the International Conference on Iron Ore 2026 in Goa, Sawant said the state is witnessing a gradual revival in transport and port-linked activity after years of slowdown caused by the suspension of mining operations. Emphasising that mining revival must be environmentally responsible, the Chief Minister said the government is committed to scientific mining practices, strict compliance with environmental norms, land reclamation, water conservation and community welfare. Sawant also highlighted the potential of scientifically utilising low-grade iron ore dumps accumulated over decades, describing them as both an environmental concern and an economic opportunity. He said the government is encouraging beneficiation, processing and value addition within Goa to maximise economic returns and generate more employment.
