Digital Goa, Aug 12 – No proposal seeking Environmental Clearance (EC) for diversion of the Mhadei/Mandovi river is currently under consideration of the Union Environment Ministry, the Centre has informed the Lok Sabha. Responding to questions by South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes, the Ministry also said the National Board for Wild Life has not approved Karnataka’s proposal to use 10.6852 hectares of forest land for the Kalasa Nala Diversion Scheme in the tiger corridor between the Kali and Sahyadri Tiger Reserves.”No proposal or details in this regard have been submitted by the concerned State Government for the Mhadei/Mandovi river basin. Further, no proposal seeking Environmental Clearance for any river diversion project involving the Mhadei/Mandovi river is presently under consideration in the Ministry,” states the reply by the Ministry. The Centre further informed that no proposal or river basin details for conducting a Cumulative Impact Assessment and Carrying Capacity Study of the Mhadei/Mandovi basin have been submitted by the concerned state governments.
