TCP withdraws technical clearance for celebrity designer’s Salvador do Mundo project

Villagers briefing the media at Azad Maidan in Panaji about the developments in the case.

Digital Goa, May 15 – Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department has withdrawn the technical clearance granted for celebrity fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani’s proposed residential project at Salvador do Mundo in Bardez. The clearance for the residential house, staff quarters, swimming pool and compound wall had originally been granted in 2023 under “past commitment” provisions of Regional Plan 2001. TCP said the decision followed complaints against the project and a communication citing a undertaking before Supreme Court that development on the property would be restricted only to the portion falling within the Settlement Zone under Regional Plan 2021. Villagers who have been fighting against the alleged illegalities pointed out that while the property purchased measures around 12,000 sq metres, only about 1,070 sq metres falls in settlement zone as per Regional Plan 2021, but approval was granted for construction over a much larger area.
