Digital Goa, September 25 – Savordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar has been elected as the Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly by 32 against 7 votes. He contested against Cuncolim MLA Altone D’Costa, who was the opposition’s candidate for the post.
▪️ Minister Mauvin Godinho appointed as new chairman of the House Committee constituted to study the issue pertaining to establishment of Common Burial ground/crematorium.
▪️ Nilesh Cabral appointed member of house committee to study matters related to river Mhadei.
▪️ Aleixo Sequeira and Krishna Salkar appointed members of select committee on the Goa Public Universities bill.
A special session of the house was summoned today for the purpose of election of the Speaker. The post had gone vacant after the induction of erstwhile speaker Ramesh Tawadkar as minister in Pramod Sawant led cabinet.
Meanwhile, opposition also raised the issue of brutal assault on activist Rama Kankonkar in the assembly and demanded discussion over the issue.
