Gouly-Dhangar community meets CM, wants ST status process to be completed within two months

Digital Goa, June 23 – A delegation of the Gouly-Dhangar community led by former CM Chandrakant Kavlekar met CM Pramod Sawant on Tuesday, seeking completion of the community’s inclusion in Goa’s Scheduled Tribes list within two months. The demand follows the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs’ rejection of the state’s proposal in April. Kavlekar said the CM has already taken up the issue with the Union Tribal Affairs Minister and written to the ministry on June 5 seeking a review of the decision. He claimed the Office of the Registrar General of India(RGI) has never rejected the proposal but has only raised several queries, which have been addressed time to time. The delegation also urged CM to seek Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s intervention. The Gouly-Dhangar community has an estimated population of around 30,000 in Goa.
