Bhoma elevated road will not affect temples, lake: Govt tells HC

Digital Goa, August, 17 – Goa government has told the High Court that the proposed Bhoma elevated road will not affect any temple or lake in the area. Advocate General Devidas Pangam said the State placed the project plan before the court to demonstrate that the temple would not be touched and the lake would be maintained as it is. The court has directed the State to share the plans with the petitioners’ advocate and adjourned the matter. Pangam also argued that the petition was filed belatedly in 2026, while the land acquisition process was completed in 2023. He said earlier petitions filed by landowners, as well as subsequent review petitions, had already been dismissed by the High Court. Bhoma villagers have been opposing the highway expansion for several years, demanding a bypass through fallow fields on the outskirts of the village instead of widening the existing NH-748 through the village. They contend that the alternative would prevent demolition of homes, businesses and temples and protect the village lake.
