Agitation for political reservation of STs intensifies; hundreds block Mandovi bridge in Panaji

    Digital Goa, Feb 5 – Tense situation was witnessed at the Mission Political Reservation protest rally held in the capital today with large group of people blocked old Mandovi bridge pressing for their demand for political reservation for ST community. The morcha was blocked at Merces in the morning moved towards the entrance of Mandovi bridge from Panaji side. Large police force deployed at the bridge stopped people from going towards assembly. Hundreds of supporters of ST reservation shouted slogans. It was decided to send a 16-member Mission Political Reservation committee to meet CM Pramod Sawant and place their demands before him.

    A 16-member Mission Political Reservation committee will be meeting CM Pramod Sawant today and placing their demand of political reservation for ST community before the govt. The mission leaders have said that they will give the govt deadline of 10 days to start the process for political reservation for ST community in Goa Legislative Assembly. “Our demand is very simple. Before notification of 2024 parliamentary elections, political reservation for ST in Goa has to be notified,” asserted the leaders. Govt should also discuss the issue with PM Modi who is arriving in Goa tomorrow and take it to logical conclusion, they added.
