Feb 13 – Union Minister of State for Power Shripad Naik today reiterated that govt should move the proposed garbage treatment plant out of Bainguinim, given its close proximity to Old Goa heritage site and opposition to the project by locals. “Old Goa is best tourism spot in the world. Taking sentiments of the people into consideration, govt must think about shifting the project elsewhere,” said Shripad. He said he has already held discussion in this regard with CM Sawant and Minister Babush Monserrate who is pushing for the project at Bainguinim. Asserting that he too is part of the govt, Naik said efforts are on to solve the issue amicably. Incidentally, local MLA Rajesh Phaldessai is leading the locals in opposing the project.
