Digital Goa, Mar 12 – High Court has today issued an order stopping the felling of trees on the Southern and Eastern cliff surrounding the Court. A PIL was filed in the court in this regards alleging that vast deforestation was happening in the land owned by the judiciary department in Survey numbers 76/1C and 76/1 E at at Penha-de-Franca Village. The petitioners have also alleged that it is likely that efforts are on to change the zone of land in question from Natural Cover with No Development Zone(NDZ) to some other zone. The PIL has also pointed out that the work was being carried out without any permissions. High Court has passed an interim order directing that no further trees would be cut in these two survey numbers without the leave of the court. The matter has been posted for hearing after 3 weeks.
