Digital Goa, Oct 7 – Goa Human Rights Commission(GHRC) has asked the IG Prisons to report on how Goa’s prisons are implementing the Supreme Court directions regarding treatment given to prisoners who are persons with Disability(PwD). The SC ruling directs prisons to identify prisoners with disabilities at the time of admission and provide information in accessible formats such as Braille, sign language, or simplified language. It also requires prison facilities to be made accessible, with ramps, wheelchair-friendly spaces, and accessible toilets, and mandates the provision of healthcare and therapy service etc.The order was issued following a request for monitoring compliance of SC directions by the Madurai-based NGO People’s Watch.
