Digital Goa, Jan 8 – High Court today upheld the conviction of 83-year-old man from Aldona for sexually assaulting a minor girl in April 2012 at his residence. The victim initially remained silent due to fear but confided in family friends on May 13, 2012, leading to a formal police complaint two days later. Following a trial with ten prosecution witnesses, the Children’s Court convicted the accused in 2018 under various sections of the IPC and the Goa Children’s Act. He was sentenced to ten years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹2,00,000. The accused had challenged his conviction, citing the prosecution’s failure to examine his daughter, inconclusive medical evidence, and delay in filing the FIR. The High Court however, rejected these arguments, finding the evidence sufficient. “The Appellant shall forthwith surrender to serve his sentence. Bail bond stands cancelled,” stated the Court order.
